Name:
Khan Odinson
Alias:
Simply goes by “Khan” (no one knows he has a last name)
Age:
34
Sex:
Yes, please! (Sorry, couldn’t resist. He’s male.)
Race:
Half-Orc/Half-Human
Appearance:
Khan inherited his bulky build from his orc father. He stands an imposing 6’5” and sports a muscular 250 lb. frame. Like all orcs, Khan has tusks protruding from his bottom lip, though his are much smaller than a full blood orc and are only slightly larger than human teeth. While his father’s skin tone was a mute green and his mother was incredibly pale, Khan has a dull grey tint to his skin. While orcs are naturally hairless, Khan is able to grow hair on account of his human blood, though his hairline is quite high and ends in a long widow’s peak. His hair is shoulder length, wiry, and a natural bright white. He is able to grow facial hair, which he wears in a half goatee since he can only grow it on his bottom jaw. While orc’s eyes are one solid color (their eyes are always white) Khan has inherited dark brown pupils from his mother. Orcs have pointed, almost elfish ears, yet Khan’s ears are much more similar to a human’s. After years of conflict, Khan is covered in various nicks and cuts, but he has two scars that are visually distinctive. The first is a massive, smooth cut across his chest that was made by an orcish blade when he was a boy. The second is a series of three thin, jagged claw marks that begin on the bottom left part of his face and run diagonally across his nose and onto his forehead. These scars appear to be charcoal in color, since, like his father, Khan’s blood is black.
Khan wears a mismatched suit of armor consisting of leather, various hides and scratched, dented scale mail as well as a fur cloak. He carries a claymore (the sword, not the mine) called Sonja. No one except Khan knows how Sonja got its name, and he has refused to ever speak about the story. He also carries various other weapons with him, including two short swords, several throwing axes, and multiple daggers placed tactically throughout his armor.
***
Khan also now has two large, jagged black scars running vertically along his back from when he was burned by Envy.
Personality:
Khan is disgusted by outbursts of emotion. Thusly, he has an intense hatred (and equal respect) for the quick-tempered, orcish aspect of his personality. Because of this hatred, Khan quickly learned how to control his boundless rage, and is often quite calm because of it, though rarely his anger is still able to break through. Though initially he attempted to get more in touch with his human side, he also became jaded with the human race after years of mistreatment, and abandoned some of the more noble and romantic aspects of his personality. He is incredibly nonchalant, and years of disappointment have given him a dry, cynical sense of humor. He is far wittier than people would suspect, and often enjoys engaging in rounds of verbal jousting. Though he initially abhorred violence, years of fighting caused Khan to abandon this idealistic stance. Unlike other orcs, Khan takes no pleasure in causing pain and death; however he has no qualms about killing if he feels he has been wronged.
Perhaps his most intense internal conflict is the struggle between his orc and human halves. He initially hated his bestial orc side and idolized his more valorous human nature, but he now accepts his orc side to an extent. He no longer idolizes his human qualities, but still prefers them to his difficult to control orc half. Khan has become a bit of an absurdist, and believes that he exemplifies the primary struggles of humanity: man versus beast, love versus anger, and society versus barbarism. Khan truly believes that his internal struggle can never be won, and that his lack of control and a true identity will inevitably cause his downfall.
Personal History:
35 years ago, in the frozen north, an orc khan (the lowest rank in the orcish army) lay, bleeding and nearly unconscious, in the middle of a forest clearing. The snow around him was colored a deep black, and four additional orc khans as well as an orc keshik (orc equivalent of a lieutenant) were dead at his feet. Freyja Odinson, an outcast from a nearby human village, stumbled upon this massacre while out hunting, and, against her better judgment, carried the wounded orc home and nursed him back to health. When the orc awakened, he told Freyja his tale. He had grown tired of the militant orcs wanton destruction. He felt that random pillaging and bloodshed had no honor, so he decided to defect and wander the earth. The orc war machine did not take kindly to disloyalty, however, and sent a small force out to make an example of him. The orc had no name, but since individuals were only referred to by their rank in orc society, Freyja decided that “Khan” was the closest thing he had to one. Though he was initially emotionally distant, Freyja grew to love Khan, and they eventually bore a child who received his father’s namesake.
Khan II grew up in the frozen woods, learning to fight and survive from both of his parents. He was an emotional, artistic child, however, and eventually grew to despise his father’s detachment. Despite his hatred of violence, Khan II learned many skills from his warrior parents. Khan taught his son the art of war and how to use a blade, while Freyja imparted to him the secret of “The Berserkang”, an ancient technique that the warriors of her village had used for generations. “The Berserkang” allowed Khan II to utilize his orcish anger to improve his fighting ability. Coupling this with his father’s martial training, Khan II was a formidable warrior by the time he was 12 years old. Despite his skills, Khan II was rendered helpless when the orcish army finally found his father after 13 years of hunting. Though they fought bravely, Khan’s parents were both killed and his childhood home was burned to the ground. Khan survived by hiding under his mother’s corpse until the orcs finally left, leaving him completely alone.
Disheartened by his loss and disgusted by war, Khan decided to journey to the city in order to follow his dream: become a scholar. When he finally arrived, things were not quite as he envisioned. He was treated like a monster and a brute, and his dreams of a life of academics were quickly shattered. It was in this formative stage of his life that Khan developed a certain disdain for humans as well as a retroactive respect for his father. After living on the streets for 4 years, Khan finally realized that he was out of options. He reluctantly began work as muscle for a local slum lord, and quickly gained notoriety in the underworld as a powerful fighter. Khan continued his work until he was 22, at which point he left the criminal world and became a mercenary. He hopes that, through mercenary work, he can find a better life as well as his place in the society that scorns him.
Skills:
• (The Berserkang Adrenaline Surge)- The most basic use of the Berserkang is to harness your anger in short bursts, giving its users spikes of adrenaline which greatly increase their physical abilities. These surges are generally used right before a blow lands, exponentially increasing its power. When Khan uses this technique, every punch hits with the force of a 100 lb. hammer, and Sonja can cleanly slice through incredibly tough materials. Khan also uses this technique to deaden his enemies’ blows, giving himself a surge of adrenaline right before he’s hit. While he initially feels no pain, as soon as he loses focus (generally right after he’s finished fighting) all the collective pain he has endured while in this Berserkang state hits him at once and is amplified tenfold. Often times, Khan will win a battle only to double over in agony as soon as his opponents are dead. Hypothetically, if Khan suffered enough damage, he could emerge victorious from a fight only to immediately fall over and die. Khan has become so familiar with this ability that every time he fights he instinctively uses it. It is completely passive and Khan does not have to do anything in order to turn the ability “on”, so to speak.
• (The Berserkang Rage)- The Berserkang’s other, more dangerous usage is known as the “berserk” or the “rage”. In this state, the user lets their anger completely overtake them, putting them into an incredibly powerful, albeit incredibly crazed, state. When Khan uses this he becomes illogical and almost feral, yet he is also capable of physical feats of Herculean proportions. While in this state, Khan is capable of lifting boulders, bending metal bars, or even tearing a grown man in half. The angrier he becomes, the more powerful he becomes. Khan has only used this 3 or 4 times in his life, since in this state he is just as likely to attack his allies as he is his enemies. There is also a chance that, if he cannot be calmed after the fight, he could lose his mind in a state of eternal fury.
• (Incredible Endurance)- Khan inherited the orc’s infamous endurance and tenacity. Like all orcs, Khan has a back up for all of his vital organs that can be quickly switched to if the primary one is damaged. His skin and muscle are also harder to pierce than a human’s, and his bones are stronger and harder to break. Also like orcs, Khan’s body has minor regenerative properties. His organs will heal themselves and his broken bones will mend over time. This regeneration has its limits (he couldn’t grow back a lost limb, for example) but it helps him stay alive much longer.
• (Unmatched Martial Prowess)- With the Beserkang, his father’s intense training, as well as years of combat experience, Khan has rightfully earned a reputation as one of the most dangerous individuals on the planet. He is a master swordsman, a skilled hand-to-hand combatant, and he has experience wielding almost every kind of simple weapon available.
• (A Keen Intellect)- Khan is much smarter than most people give him credit for. While he’s no genius, Khan has had a large amount of tactical combat experience and is actually quite well read for a man in his line of work.
